Five players to watch out for in March Madness

Anna Wilson / Stanford Athletics

This year’s NCAA basketball features a ton of talent, including freshman Paige Bueckers, the talk of the season so far. But there are a number of other players who are making quite an impact — let’s take a look at five players who you should look out for during the NCAA D1 basketball tournament, starting Mar. 21:

Aaliyah Edwards, UConn Huskies

Aaliyah Edwards is a key player for the UConn Huskies, named 2019 NBA Basketball Without Borders Global MVP and 2020 BioSteel Athlete of the Year and a Canadian U15 national team graduate. Yes, she’s a freshman, but Edwards has a toughness to running the floor and is persistent when pursuing the ball. She brings fresh talent the Huskies haven’t seen in a long time.

Elissa Cunane, North Carolina State Wolfpack

Elissa Cunane was recently named the ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player after her impressive 70 points through three back-to-back games with the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Standing at an impressive 6’5, Cunane is an excellent ball-handler.

Dana Evans, Louisville Cardinals

Senior guard Dana Evans brings a competitive spirit to Louisville. She was named the ACC Player of the Year last season and again this season, making her the ninth player to win the award back to back. She currently is the top scorer of the ACC with 21.0 points per game. She also has an amazing shot from the free throw line averaging 93.8 per cent.

Katie Benzan, Maryland Terrapins

Katie Benzan is finishing her collegiate career at the University of Maryland after transferring from Harvard. Benzan is one of the best 3-point shooters around, currently the third-leading scorer in Big Ten in 3-pointers. With a total of 81 shots from the 3 so far this season, Benzan is someone to keep an eye on.

Anna Wilson, Stanford Cardinal

Anna Wilson is an impeccable defensive player and a top defender for Stanford, just named Pac-12 Co-Defensive Player of the Year. She anticipates how the game works and prepares herself for the other teams’ tendencies. With her extensive rebound experience and outside shooting, Wilson is a force to be reckoned with.
