TACOMA, Wash. (Sept. 29, 2019) — The Seattle Reign FC defeated the Portland Thorns FC for the third time this season with a 2-0 victory on Sunday. The Reign’s win clinched the NWSL’s fourth playoff spot.

Jodie Taylor and Bethany Balcer scored the goals for Seattle. Taylor gave the Reign the lead in the first half after finishing a Theresa Nielsen cross.

Balcer doubled the lead for Seattle when she found herself in the 18-yard box with the ball, chopped it cleanly to the side of her defender and placed a low shot past Thorns goalkeeper Adrianna Franch.

Portland’s loss guaranteed the Chicago Red Stars second place in the standings. North Carolina Courage are locked in first and the Thorns currently sit in third. The regular season ends Oct. 12.
